Unfunny Internet Meme Comics #6-85

More flirtations with the dreaded Continuity? Oh, the joys of inconsistencies…
My Japanese copy of Bayonetta for the 360 turned up yesterday. Having not played the trial version of it, I was kind of surprised exactly how much it is pretty much just Devil May Cry – the controls are more or less the same, and the presentation is pretty much identical down to things like the menus and the choice of typeface and the like.
Not that that’s a particularly bad thing, and it does, impressively, manage to out-insane Devil May Cry. I kind of appreciate the fact that they presumably realised that the background exposition at the start of the game was kind of boring, and as a result decided to try and make it a touch more interesting. By making you fight a bunch of Angels whilst the voice-over explains the game world. Whilst you are standing on the face of an obliterated clock-tower. Which is plummeting down a cliff at high-speed.
Honestly, I didn’t catch a word of it, not that it doesn’t repeat itself at length later on ^^; I suppose it doesn’t really matter when the game swiftly moves onto you fighting in a graveyard to the accompaniment of a funky dance version of Fly Me To The Moon…
I also appreciate that Platinum Games took full advantage of being published by Sega – aside from the Capcom/Clover games references (at one point Luka lists off a bunch of characters he’s supposedly romanced – they were the heroines of the games Hideki Kamiya has previously directed, in order), there’s quite a bit of random Sega-service. Magical Sound Shower makes any game better (as does Splash Wave for that matter).
My R2 media order for the month actually landed a couple of days ago. Haruhi-extras update once I find the time to watch the DVD.
