Unfunny Internet Meme Comics #8-16

It’s kind of hard not to notice certain trends in anime. If someone was to tell me that back in the 1970s there had been a show where the Mummy of a long-dead Egyptian Queen hunted a young girl with a magical necklace of some kind, I’d be inclined to believe them. Also, I’d totally want to watch that show, because it sounds awesome.

No comments regarding Fractale that you won’t have heard elsewhere, so I’ll not bore you, though I’m not entirely unconvinced that any similarity’s to Laputa or Nausicaa or Nadia are simply there as an easy grab for attention…

The ones from Nadia always reminded me of team rocket, mostly because the chick acted a lot like Jesse (not sure what her jp name is).

Can’t say I’ve seen much Pokemon in Japanese either, though plenty in English. Man, that first season had some really bizarre visual references to Evangelion…

Still, having a Meowth as the leader doesn’t really fit the pattern ^^;

The Grandis gang from Nadia totally reminded me of Gunstar Heroes on the Genesis/Mega Drive, because Treasure totally ripped them for one of the end of level bosses.

(bitch bitch bitch) you should have swapped the men in the first picture, so that the fat one was always on the right. (bitch bitch bitch)

That would have required such pesky things as forward planning. Far too sensible, that’d be.

(I’d have swapped them over post-production, but for once I ended up drawing the characters all on the same layer, so it’d be too much of a pain to go back and update. Ho-hum).

Don’t forget the Time Bokan series combos! Doronjo with Tonzular and Boyakki; Majo with Grocky and Warusa; etc. IMHO, the Time Bokan trios were the inspiration for the Grandis gang. Grandis even had the signature blue eye shadow.

Alas, I can’t say I’m old enough to remember Time Bokan, but I’m happy to take your word for it ^^;

(Besides, judging from the Time Boken Wikipedia entry, that’d mean I’d have to start plotting things on a bell-curve…)
