Anime fans in “jumping to conclusions” shocker!

Oh, what an amusing day it has been. Reports from the first day of Otakon saw people discovering English flyers for recent fan favourite The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi. At some point along the line, this poster got associated with ADV – how, precisely, I have no idea given that it was actually a flyer advertising the Kadokawa Pictures panel.

Anyway, this story jumped from certain message boards to the blog community, then from the blog community to other forums, and those other forums to other parts of the blog community, and seemingly at every step along the line the ADV connection was repeated, aside from some sane (but seemingly ignored) people pointing out the fact the poster didn’t actually say anything specifically.

So, the Funimation panel comes and goes with no Haruhi announcement, the ADV panel comes and goes with no Haruhi announcement, and – surprise surprise – Kadokawa Pictures panel comes and goes with no Haruhi announcement. Yup, Kadokawa did say they’d received a few offers, but they haven’t actually licensed it out to anyone yet.

So, basically, a whole day of people getting excited over it and people with no knowledge of the R1 anime labels doing the usual “OMG! They’ll ruin it!” (i.e. “What, normal people seeing Haruhi? I don’t feel special anymore! The show SUXXORS anyway!”) climaxed in a complete non-event.

The moral of the story is, don’t jump to conclusions based on a poster what could easily be photoshopped.

Still, Shadow Warrior Chronicals *snigger*

Thank you, this is the first post on this issue that I’ve read that wasn’t a “OMG! They’ll ruin it!” rehash.

The hell? There were Haruhi posters? I walked around all day and saw jack… besides that chick cosplaying as bunny Haruhi, of course.

On closer inspection, I suspect they were probably more fliers than posters, but I’m really just reporting second hand information here ^^;
