Random Wafflage: Sayoko and Other Stuff Edition
So, posts have been a little thinner on the ground this last week or so than they have been in other recent weeks, mostly due to the stalling on Sayoko. There’s a couple of reasons for that stall.
One is that I’ve just been really busy with other stuff – much of last week, as I’ve already mentioned, was spent watching the later half of GaoGaiGar and throwing together the 3rd Anniversary Comic, then there was playing Disgaea the weekend prior (cleared the story mode in about 17 hours), and I’ve been playing Psychonauts over the last couple of days. There’s been a few IRL events that have gotten in the way as well, but I won’t go into those.
The other reason is that, well, Code Geass has kind of been hard for me to make fun of recently. I know that sounds like an odd statement, but the more ridiculous something gets, the hard it becomes for me – kind of an overwhelming sense of not really being able to top what the show is doing itself. Code Geass is doing a particularly spectacular job of putting me in that position at the moment.
To be honest, I’m kind of itching to do something else with that time as well. I’m starting to get the urge to start on another RenPy project of some kind, for one thing. I’m not really sure what I’d do, exactly – I’ve thought about doing that magical girl game several times, but every time I draft something up, it gets to the point where it stops being parody and starts being, well, a generic magical girl story. That’s no fun, really, and not the kind of thing I’d want to do. I’ve got a few ideas I could use for it, but I might save that for this years NaNoWriMo attempt. I had thought about Hikikomori Quest 2, but there was an RPG maker game that, by most reports, was pretty decent released pretty recently called Hikikomori Quest, and I’m quite happy to let them keep the name and never touch the thing again. Present thoughts are tending to something with weeaboos maybe… I guess I shouldn’t ponder out loud, lest this turn into Hinano/RenAi Blogger-esque scenario whereby it becomes a chore-like obligation rather than fun. I don’t really want to get in the position where people expect something out of me.
But, yeah, Sayoko – it’s difficult for me to find the time or the content for it recently. I guess just going incredibly random is an option for the later point, but largely I think this whole Sayoko thing has run it’s course, anyway. If I think of anything and have the time I might still post something, but the time issue, with my big stack of backlogged games and DVDs (and Yakuza 2 being out in the US this week), is something I always find pressing ^^;
Or I could just start back on the general purpose Meme comics…
Right, enough of that, and on to other matters!

God, Haruka was cute.
Indeed, though as far as Xenoglossia goes, I’m an Iori fanboy. I wish I could say Ritsuko and go for the Game/Xenoglossia double-favourite thing, but she didn’t get anywhere near enough screentime in Xenoglossia.
I’m still kind of disappointed that the show never really took off among English fandom – it’s a pretty sound example of a Sunrise show which didn’t spectacularly trainwreck itself towards the end. It did have a lot stacked up against it, though – there was the whole game thing which caused a lot of people not to know what they were getting, and others to be repulsed at the changes, there was a certain degree of animosity from Code Geass fans bitter that Sunrise weren’t producing it rather than going straight into Geass second season, and then there was a certain degree of “J.C. Staff Syndrome” – that is, it seemed a little too derivative of the other shows they’d been making at the time. Omni dropping his blog coverage was pretty much the last nail in it’s coffin, and much of anime fandom fell into disinterest soon afterwards.
I guess I should be thankful that it isn’t the least popular Sunrise show of recent years – that award probably goes to Guy-HiME attempt Cluster Edge. I know it’s not really as good as, say, Zegapain or My-HiME, but it’s still a pretty damn decent show. I realise that me saying this isn’t going to cause a bunch of people to out and watch the thing, but I’m entitled to a good moan every once in a while, surely?
And, dammit, I really, really liked that show.
Oh, and Author, Saber Lion is from Fate/Tiger Colosseum. I think they’ve just released a new version of that game, actually…

I like Iori too. And the sleepy chick, who, unfortunately, never got to pilot anything.

Yukiho? I guess you never got as far as the epic-yet-obvious plot twist ^^;
