Alright!

*Ahem*

This is coming from an unexpected place, given that the movie is predominantly set in the French capital, but there is indeed a Mikan Box in the Heartcatch Precure movie. Surprise Mikan Box are the best kind.

The Heartcatch Precure movie is, actually, pretty great. Well, I say pretty great, but obviously I mean within certain parameters, and largely in comparison to what you’d typically expect from a movie tie-in to a popular running franchise. It has it’s problems – despite it’s brevity, it certainly likes to reiterate what a large portion of the audience is likely to already know. The movie gives time for all four of our heroines to explain their respective character-arcs from the TV show, and whilst this makes sense for Tsubomi and maybe Yuri, it seems like overkill for Erika and Itsuki to run through theirs as well.

Saying that, it’s a very pleasant watch. As I said, at barely over an hour in length, it’s certainly fairly brief, but it does have a nice, snappy pace to it as a result. Whilst it could definitely have done with a little added Marine Forehead Punch, there’s some nicely done action sequences, and most of it’s attempts at humour worked for me. The story isn’t anything massively significant, but it does manage not to feel quite as throw-away most tie-in movies do, tying back to series main plot without sitting quite as awkwardly as many of these other movies tend to.

But, ultimately, it’s just kind of pleasant. It’s not anything that’s going to stay with anyone long after they’ve watched it, but as a piece of disposable entertainment, there’s far worse ways to burn through seventy minutes.

Like watching All-Stars DX2.

(Random note, but the movies climax kind of reminds me of the end of the forth Keroro Gunsou movie, both of which take place at Mont Saint-Michel…)

Also, there’s loads of great Erika faces splattered throughout the movie. I was sorely tempted just to make this post a gallery of her facial contortions. I don’t care what those who’ve actually seen the all the Precure shows say, Erika is totally the best Cure.

THEY’RE DRINKING HUMAN SOULS!

Heeeeeeaaaaaaartcatch!
