{"id":5846,"date":"2018-05-10T21:35:13","date_gmt":"2018-05-10T20:35:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.beta-waffle.com\/blog\/?p=5846"},"modified":"2020-10-11T21:02:37","modified_gmt":"2020-10-11T20:02:37","slug":"mikan-watch-116-comic-girls","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.beta-waffle.com\/blog\/?p=5846","title":{"rendered":"Mikan Watch #116: Comic Girls"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><center><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.beta-waffle.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/comic_mikan_s.jpg\" \/><\/center><br \/>\nFrom a couple of weeks ago, from episode 4 of <i>Comic Girls<\/i> &#8211; I&#8217;ve not seen todays episode yet &#8211; being used as a table for drawing, well, comics on during an imaginatory sequence.<\/p>\n<p>Comic Girls is a sitcom adapting a four-panel manga about a group of high-school aged Manga artists living in the same dormitory, that has proven itself notable for a couple of reasons. Firstly, it&#8217;s kind of hitting <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.sakugabooru.com\/2018\/04\/20\/production-highlights-comic-girls-01-03\/\">way above what is probably necessary<\/a> or expected in terms of some of the specifics of it&#8217;s execution. Secondly, after some other recent stuff like <i>Blend-S<\/i> proved to be way more aggressively heteronormative than one would necessarily anticipate from something originating from one of the <i>Manga Time Kirara<\/i>-branded magazines, Comic Girls plays more closely to what I generally assume most their readers expects in that it&#8217;s almost refreshing how explicitly gay it can be, and not just in the way ostensive lead Kaos seems perennially, somewhat against expected type, lowkey horny for her friends.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;d have maybe called it my unexpected sleeper of the season, except Hinamatsuri&#8217;s absurdest streak plays way, way closer to my taste in humour.
