Mikan Watch #7: Buso Renkin

From episode four, this is how Kazuki had assumed Tokiko had been living. I’m not quite sure why Tokiko is so annoyed – surely it’s better than living in a plain box?

Oh, well, at least they weren’t ambiguous about it here.

I don’t really have much else to say about the series. There’s nothing notably wrong with the Viz release of the show, though I guess the pretty reasonable price ($50/13 episodes RRP, obviously way cheaper online). The show itself is merely entertaining – it manages to make itself seem marginally less trashy and shallow than the manga version, but aside from that really not being a remotely difficult task, from what I gather that impression is unlikely to last.

Mikan Watch 6: Blood+

This is from Episode 14 of Blood+. It doesn’t actually say mikan, and, on closer inspection, I’m not actually entirely sure if it’s an orange or a apple, but I’m claiming it.

iDOLM@STER: Live For You

This is mostly going to be about the OAV, since there really isn’t much to say about the game. It’s kind of fun, though there really isn’t all that much to it – it is a pretty easy 1000 gamer points, though the amount of travel in the 360 pads face buttons makes the higher difficulty settings a little harder than they should be. I really need to go back through and play all the tracks whilst wearing headphones in order to properly judge the remix tracks, but they are a real mixed bag. Some of them really, really don’t work – they’ve tried to turn My Best Friend into a trash metal track for it’s A-mix, and the disconnect between the backing track and the vocal is horrendous (the unreleased chip-tune-tastic B-mix at least sounds better) – whilst some of the others are great. My favourite is probably the A-mix of Aoi Tori, which is dropping in so much gothic malice that it really wouldn’t sound out of place in a Vampire movie.

Anyway, onto the OAV…

iDOLM@STER Xenoglossia DVD 8

Those who were hoping that the DVD with Azusa on the cover might actually have an Azusa themed omake will be sorely disappointed with this latest DVD. Those, like myself, who were disappointed with the craptacular Futami twins omake on the last disk will no doubt take a great amount of solace in the fact that this disks Chihaya and Yukiho centric featurette quite possibly has more cuts than all the previous omake put together (including some actual animation!) – a number of which break the decency levels I hold this blog to.
