Mikan Watch #98: Monster Musume

From episode 9 of Monster Musume (or, Everyday Life with Monster Girls, if you will), is something that I probably should have posted about over a month ago on the evening when I actually watched the episode, when it was still a relevant thing to point out.

Still, for posterities sake, what’s going on above here is a parody of the Metal Gear Solid series of videogames, in which the protagonist has the option of attempting to sneak around in a cardbox box (often labelled “The Orange”) whilst trying to avoid attention.

Which is exactly what Meer and company are discussing here. The icing on the joke here is that, as I am sure everyone is aware, the protagonists in the Metal Gear games are typically codenamed Snake, whilst Meer is a Lamia – that is, a half-snake lady.

Ha ha, and indeed, ha.

Actually, I think that is moderately smart gag (even if she is technically way too large to fit under that box), though the real amusing thing (and why I should have posted about this several weeks ago) is that the episode aired on the release date of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. That’s some immaculate timing!

The show itself was entertaining enough. This level of lewd isn’t normally quite my thing, necessarily, but it largely amused. There’s some real impressive animation in the shows final episode, too.

It sure seems to be a lot of other folks thing, though. It was London MCM over this last weekend, and whilst I personally went mostly to see the Gundam The Origin Part 2 screening that was nearby on Saturday (and also so that I can continue to say that I’ve seen every Love Live movie screening on my entire continent), I did go in for the panels, and I did do my twice-annual manga shop (hence the Witchcraft Works post). In the process of this, it was pointed out to me that, whilst other titles in the wider Monster Girls genre were still in varying degrees of supply, actual volumes of Monster Musume were of a staggering degree of scarcity by the Saturday morning.

I guess folks were waiting to pick it up using untraceable cash or something…
